The Retrofit 2050 project has been accredited to the Living With Environmental Change (LWEC) programme, joining a group of environmentally minded research projects across the UK.
LWEC brings together 21 public sector organisations that fund, carry out and use environmental research including UK research councils, government departments and government agencies. Its portfolio includes more than 70 activities, which include research projects, environmental observation and centres of excellent. Together they represent more than £800 million of investment into understanding the challenges that face the built environment and developing the knowledge and skills to address them.
All activities accredited under the programme address one of six core challenges:
- Understanding, avoiding or managing climate change
- Incorporating the consideration and protection of ecosystems into decision making
- Ensuring sustainable supply and use of resources
- Protecting human health in a changing climate
- Making infrastructure, the built environment and transport systems less carbon intensive
- Understanding the role of government, business and society in addressing environmental change
As well as encouraging communication and collaboration between partner organisations, LWEC will play an important role in showcasing example of good practice and the work and findings of affiliated projects.
