The project team bridges six universities and numerous academic disciplines, bringing together experience and expertise in socio-technical transitions, the built environment, modelling and urban design, amongst others. Through interviews, modelling, surveys, participatory workshops, surveys and case study analysis, we have sought to:
- explore and advance theoretical and practical understandings of systems innovation and transition in a city-regional context
- analyse the social and technical processes underpinning such transitions in the case studies of Greater Manchester and South East Wales
- identify and characterise technological and social innovations that will underpin a transition to sustainability in the built environment between 2020 and 2050
- articulate and appraise city-region specific visions and pathways for urban scale retrofitting and the built environment
